Ladies, grab your BFF, all your frenemies and a glass of wine! Here is the guilty pleasure book you have been waiting for. If you want a book that gives you accurate historical accounts of Mormonism, aka the Church of Latter Day Saints, you need to stop reading this review and check out "Under The Banner of Heaven" by Jack Kerouac. If you're looking for some religion with your entertainment, then "Bad Mormon" is for you.

Heather Gay is a costar of "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" and is known on the show as a fierce lady boss that is divorced and breaking off her lifelong dedication to the Mormon Church. Once married to "Mormon Royalty", she soon found that the requirements and expectations of a typical Mormon wife were more stifling than sanctimonious. She chronicles her childhood experiences with Mormonism all the way to present day, where she continues to struggle with the question that plagues her...how to balance the duality between duty to self, and duty to God.

Gay's memoir is full of the spicy blurbs that you would expect from a "Housewives" alum. She never lacks in humor, and her self effacement makes her more relatable than one would expect. Although she grapples with religiosity, her belief in God's love for her doesn't wan. She gives an interesting look into a largely patriarchal religion and rides out an undertone of feminism without being "preachy". Ultimately this book is about a woman who is still finding herself and having the most fun as possible along the way. Hilarious and unexpectedly tender at times, "Bad Mormon" shows a deeper side to this "Housewife".

"Bad Mormon: A Memoir" can be checked out at Sullivan Gardens Public Library.
